Triteleia Spring Star Dark Blue                                                                                                               

Botanical name - Ipheion uniflorum                                                                                           

Carefree bulb. Light blue star-shaped flowers sit on grass like foliage. A long flowering season means there will be a constant display of flowers from mid-winter right through to the end of spring once plants are established.                                                                                                         

Position - Grows best in full sun to light shade.                                                                 

Climate - Suitable for all climates except tropical. Frost hardy.                                         

Planting time - Autumn to Winter.                                                                                                                 

Watering - After planting give them a thorough watering, but do not water again until the foliage starts to appear. Natural rainfall should be sufficient. Keep bulbs moist during dry spells in autumn and late spring. Do not water when dormant.                                                                 

Flowering time - Late Winter to Spring.                                                                                 

Fertilising - Prepare soil with complete fertiliser or animal manure. A yearly top-dressing with a complete fertiliser is sufficient to maintain excellent growth and multiplication.                                                                                                                       

Soil - PH adaptable.                                                                                                                                               

Pests - Extremely resistant to both pests and diseases. Bait slugs and snails during growing period if necessary.                                                 

Growing Tips - When grown under trees or shrubs, plants will become naturalised. Spring star make striking borders and in are great in rock gardens. When planting, remember to allow some extra space for multiplication, which will occur quite rapidly. Spring star can be left undisturbed for many years, however after some years the clumps may become too thick in which case they can be dug up and divided. If they do need to be lifted wait until the leaves turn yellow and lay flat.
