Botanical Name: Ranunculus asiaticus

Position: Full sun to part shade, preferably in a sheltered position protected from strong winds.

Climate: Suitable for cool, temperate and Mediterranean climates. Frost tolerant once established. Performs best in cool growing conditions.

Planting Time: Autumn to early winter.

Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, then keep soil evenly moist while plants are actively growing and flowering. Avoid overwatering and waterlogged conditions. Reduce watering as foliage begins to die back after flowering.

Flowering Time: Late winter to spring.

Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser or bulb food at planting and again when growth appears. Feed during flowering to encourage continued blooms and after flowering to help replenish the corms.

Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid heavy or poorly drained soils.

Pests: Protect emerging growth from snails and slugs. Aphids and fungal diseases may occasionally occur, particularly in damp conditions.

Growing Tips: Soak the claw-shaped corms in water for 2–3 hours before planting. Plant with the claws facing downwards at the recommended depth. Italian Ranunculi produce particularly large, full flowers and benefit from regular watering and feeding during active growth. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the corms can store energy. In suitable climates, corms can be lifted and stored in a cool, dry place before replanting.
