Star of Bethlehem
Botanical name - Ornithogalum umbellatum
Star of Bethlehem is an easy to grow bulb that features masses of delicate white star-like flowers with a pale green tinge on each stem. A fantastic bulb for naturalising, Star of Bethlehem will gradually become a thick clump.
Position - Grows best in full sun or part shade.
Climate - Suitable for all climates except tropical areas.
Planting time - Autumn to Winter.
Watering - Only necessary if soil begins to dry due to insufficient rainfall.
Flowering time - Spring to Summer.
Fertilising - Work organic/chemical fertiliser through soil prior to planting.
Soil - Well-drained soil. They prefer a neutral PH soil.
Growing Tips - Single bulbs will make clumps up to 30cm over a few years. Can be left undisturbed for many years. If lifting and storing, digging is required wait until flowers have died down. Keep the bulbs water free, in a cool dry place and replant annually in spring.
